Whether you show is 6 months or 6 years old, it’s never to early to start repurposing your old podcast episodes. While you podcast is a great platform for delivering content, if you stop there, you’re leaving so much money on the table.
Keep scrolling to learn 6 reasons you should be taking the time repurpose your podcast episodes to one or more platforms.
There are affiliate links included in this blog post. While I receive a kickback from you using them, they will add no extra costs to you and are all platforms I have used and honestly recommend.
You’ve already created the content and it’s out there for anyone on the internet to stumble upon, so why should you take extra steps to repurpose your podcast?
There are 2 main reasons I’m so passionate about repurposing podcasts and that is A. not everyone consumes content the same and B. podcast discoverability is no where near as powerful as SEO.
Both of these I’ll get more into below but just know this: When you repurpose your podcast, you’re taking some of your best content and multiplying it. There are literally no downsides to it.
While 6 reasons is a decent start, this isn’t an exhaustive list. There are an infinite reasons why you should be repurposing your podcast archive but they all come back to 3 basic goals, more time, more money and more freedom.
I want you to be able to scale your business without wasting hours on content ideation, creation and scheduling each month, so let’s take the low hanging fruit, your content archive, and make the most of it.
Your podcast is a great nurture platform for your existing audience and it’s known to help support converting your people. But it doesn’t always do the best job of bringing in new leads.
As podcast discoverability can be limited outside of podcasting platforms, you will never have the same reach as a SEO based platform like Pinterest, Youtube or blogging. That’s why if you want to continue growing your show and your business, it’s non-negotiable to be repurposing your podcast into promotional material that will send new listeners to your show at all times.
A hill I will die on is that not everyone consumes content the same.
Some people love listen to podcasts, some people exclusively watch Tiktoks and some people, like me, watch everything on mute and prefer to read the content they’re consuming.
Moral of the story is, if you’re only creating audio content, you’re missing those of your audience that prefer video or written forms of content. And don’t get me started on copy pasting pod transcripts to blogs, that is not something anyone wants to read.
Take the time and repurpose your content properly so that your entire audience and those new to your world can consume your content easily.
Not to be bias, but podcasts are where some of my clients best ideas come from.
Interview or solo episodes, the act of speaking your thoughts, processes and opinions outloud creates a completely different type of content than writing things out.
I couldn’t explain if it’s the fact we have less time to sensor ourselves or if speaking outloud really is the best way to work things out but I guarantee your podcast episodes are full of hidden gems and by not repurposing them, you’re keeping your ideas behind a barrier.
Turn those gems into emails, threads, linkedin posts, blog posts. Blast them on the internet so that even the people who heard you speak on your podcast won’t be able to ignore it why they see you sharing your experitse all over the internet.
Content repurposing is a great deterrent for burnout. Why? Because burn out for entrepreneurs is usually the result of constant forcing.
Forcing content ideas, content creation, creativity, a consistent presence.
Thankfully, with all the episodes you’ve already created for your podcast, you have a goldmine of ready to go content ideas just waiting for you to take advantage of them. If you feel yourself approaching capacity and falling behind on your content strategy, scroll through your old episodes and pull out some quotes, analogies or stories to beef out your marketing without creating from scratch.
I know exactly how time consuming content creation can be. Thankfully when you repurpose your content you remove the planning and ideation steps of your marketing strategy.
You have your posting frequency set, you know what your audience likes and needs to hear to be ready to buy, take your old podcast episodes and and use them to your advantage.
I promise you’ll save at minimum 10 hours a month on content creation when you start repuropsing. And honestly, you can save even more time by hiring my team to tale over repurposing for you so all you have to do is record your podcasts.
I don’t know why this is so overlooked but not enough podcast hosts are repurposing their podcast episodes into blog posts.
No copy-pasting your transcripts and show notes doesn’t count, yes I’m guilty of doing the latter. But the truth is, they simply don’t work if you’re looking to take advantage of SEO traffic.
Creating proper blogs that reshare the information in a well formatted and written format will see your website traffic soaring and help you get even more listeners to your podcast. All my repurposed podcast episodes have the episode imbeded and a CTA for you to listen if you prefer that to reading.
When you use proper headings and share clear advice, people will be able to see right away that your episodes are worth listening to and you do know what you’re talking about.
Now that you know why you should be repurposing your podcast, let me share just how easy it is to repurpose your podcast episodes.
I personally, like to start with the transcript. There are many platforms that make it easy to pull these with Castmagic or Riverside being the classics for podcasts. However tools like Cockatoo and DeepCast can also be helpful if you don’t need the full support of the podcast tools.
Once you have the transcript, you can refer to your content repurposing workflow to know which platforms you need to create content for and start pulling ideas directly from it.
Start by looking for a lesson, quote or story that you want to retell. Applying my Angles Strategy is another great way to repurpose your podcast episodes. As most of your podcast episodse will be nurture or education based content, shifting the angles to generate more leads on social media or create more sales from your emails will be a great use of your time.
The best advice I can give you is to not overthink it. I promise you that no one will come to you and say “you’ve already said this.” No one is paying as close attention to your content as you are. They want you to repeat yourself because they need to hear you repeat yourself at minimum 7 times before they’re read to buy.
Did I convince you to go back through you podcast archive before you sit down for your next content writing session? Or does the idea of digging through you own content make you feel like pulling your own hair out.
Let me help you dig the hidden gems out of your content with a Remix. All you have to do is point me in the direction of your top rated episodes and I’ll put together a list of 100 custom content ideas ready for you to create.
